GO7-19 Electrohome Flyback Replacement
This flyback is designed for the 19" monitors used in the G07-CBO chassis GO7-904 or GO7-7. Typically replaced along with the Width Coil C30380A.
Some people have been using these flybacks (which fit) in the smaller GO7-FBO monitors 13" picture tubes chassis GO7-902 (commonly used in Atari cocktail tables) or GO7-906, but they will produce too high an HV when used in the smaller monitors, potentially leading to X-Ray generation and shorter picture tube life.
Here is a tech post I made on KLOV's forum back in 2018 (updated 2023):
Recapping chassis is always a good idea when the flyback fails. Pretty
much essential. Use good quality, name brand capacitors that are rated
for 105C.
The DANGER with using the 19" flyback is it overdrives the 13" picture
tube. These tubes were rated up to 22.5KV maximum voltage, however
testing with an HV probe shows they are driven to close the 30KV when
using the 19" flyback mounted in the 13" GO7-FBO chassis. This may cause soft
x-rays to be emitted and is potentially hazardous. The picture tube will also wear out faster as it is being over-driven.
In bench testing I was able to get the HV down to a safe 19.5KV, and
have good horizontal width by adding up to a 6000pf/1500 volt polypropylene cap in
parallel with the existing capacitors C512, C513, and C514 beside the
HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor).
I SERIOUSLY recommend that amateurs do not attempt replacing the
original flyback/LOPT unless they have access to a good HV probe to verify
safe HV voltage operation. My shop has several HV probes that we use to
verify the accuracy of our test ones. HV probes can under report, so be
sure to check yours using a working 19" color monitor to verify the
reading of your probe is under 25.5KV (maximum safe level for 19" tubes)
so you then have a reasonable chance of checking the 13" HV is under
22.5KV with the capacitor added.
If in doubt you will be better off setting the monitor aside and using a
15in LCD with an adapter. They work just fine, and are much safer from
an x-ray perspective!
However - watch out for some of the Amazon sellers - the 12VDC power
supply they include with the cheap 15" 3:4 screens are a dangerous joke.
The power cord is two prong at one end, leading to a three prong
computer style end on the other that connects to the uncertified 12VDC
power supply. DO NOT USE THAT SUPPLY - fire and/or shock risk! A good
quality UL or CSA power supply will protect you and your family from
risk and can plug right in - I believe the jack is a 2.5mm one on most
of these small monitors.
