Type 1 Sound Board replacement

Contact, Disco Fever, Phoenix, Pokerino, World Cup, Flash, Stellar Wars, Scorpion, Time Warp

This is Kahr's completely re-engineered replacement sound board for Williams system 3 - 6 games.  He has completely re-engineered this platform's sound board hardware and software.  The result is a completely new design using modern electronics and software synthesizers to re-create all of the lively sounds. Compatible with all games that used ROM 0 or ROM 1 sounds.  Every aspect of the original sound boards has been addressed.  Permanently retired are the PIA, the DAC, PROMS, glass fuses and the analog amplifier's speaker hum.  Newly created are integrated diagnostic indicators for the game's signal lines, touch points to manually trigger sounds, audio out RCA connection for eternal audio equipment (Modder's edition), and the modder's trigger interface (Modder's edition).

Tech Details - Diagnostics Built In

Integrated LED indicators monitor each incoming signal line.  A monitoring LED will flash if a signal line is shorted to ground (i.e., because of a shorted drive transistor) and will illuminate when no activity is detected through 30 sound calls (i.e., because of a disconnect).  Shorting a signal line's trigger pad allows for simplified sound system functionality testing without requiring a reboot when completed.

Shown in these two pictures are the Sound Input connector (top) populated with 8 pins.  Below each pin is a trigger pad (silver color, just above the picture's horizontal midpoint).  Shorting the two contacts of the trigger pad simulates an incoming signal triggering sounds.  Below the line of trigger pads is the line of diagnostic LEDs.

In the first picture the four lit LEDs indicate no recent signaling has been seen on their corresponding input pins.  This condition could be caused by an open circuit on the associated input pin, but it could appear in gameplay from a repeated calling of a single sound (i.e., in a bonus countdown).  In the second picture the flashing LED indicates the associated pin is shorted to ground.  Combined, these diagnostics can simplify troubleshooting games with signal issues.
