Replacement Series 2 CPU IC for Bally Home Pinballs

A fully functional replacement for the original Bally Home Pinball CPU IC (40 pin) - (Mostek 3870). This is for the single 40 pin IC logic board - see picture. I have also developed a working replacement for the 3 X 40 pin IC first version logic board - need to create an installation sheet as there are several modifications needed for the mother board.

Note that the problem may be something else - please check out this LINK to Bally Home service tips to help keep your game running..

This CPU IC replaces the original CPU IC on the following Series 2 (single 40-pin IC style) Bally Home Pinball games:

  • 614-2000 Captain Fantastic
  • 614-4000 Galaxy Ranger
  • 614-5000 Fireball

Packed in anti-static bag, and includes a RECOMMENDED 40 pin IC socket to replace the useless original socket (if it is one of the cream coloured sockets)

Please do the following checks/tests checks prior to purchase:

  • Verify the 40 pin IC socket for the CPU is in good condition. If the socket is beige or 'tan' coloured (second image) replace it before giving up on the CPU, these old beige IC sockets are notorious for having poor pin contacts causing apparent CPU failure!
  • We recommend that you consider replacing the two 22mfd axial lead capacitors and test again prior to ordering this CPU!
  • VLED should be around 6 to 7VDC (see 2nd photo)
  • 5VDC MUST be 5.00VDC +/- 0.2VDC - this is the critical voltage verify as below (see 2nd photo)

Use your voltmeter to check that you see the voltages across the two capacitors on the bottom right side of the logic board as shown on the second picture...test with the 40-pin CPU not installed - nothing should energize with the CPU pulled. Other problems exist if solenoids fire when the CPU is out:

The final picture shows a typical MPU board in self test - you should see "600d" on the display, then it should cycle all the numbers, lights and solenoids...

!!No warranty against failure - you must verify all voltages prior to installing!!
